A
new medication system delivers a drug into the body through
the skin, the method that offers many advantages over conventional
injection and oral methods: it minimizes the unpleasant and
harmful side effects of a drug while optimizing its beneficial
effects; it reduces the load that the oral route commonly
places on the digestive tract and liver; and there is no pain
from a syringe. What's more, this controlled, prolonged drug
delivery method simplifies drug therapy and increases patient
compliance by decreasing the frequency of administration and
proving visual confirmation of medication.
Nitto Denko took a leading position in the development of
transdermal drug delivery patches in the early 1980s by developing
technologies for the design of safe, stable transdermal patches
and the synthesis of optimal adhesives in order to ensure
prescribed rates of drug release. We remain committed to improving
quality of life by introducing a variety of transdermal systems
for new areas of treatment.
Transdermal patch for ischemic heart disease
This transdermal patch of isosorbide dinitrate in a viscoelastic
polymer matrix is used for treatment of angina pectoris and
other ischemic heart diseases. When applied to the chest or
upper abdomen, the patch releases the drug through our proprietary
crystal-reservoir system, thereby contributing to stable improvement
of cardiac functioning. The patch, which employs our lipo-gel
adhesive to minimize skin irritation, has earned an excellent
reputation as a gentle, easy-to-use, and "wearable"
cardiac remedy.
Patch for local anesthesia
This transdermal patch anesthetizes the skin and relieves
the pain experienced on insertion of large needles, such as
the indwelling needles used in hemodialysis. The pain from
such needles increases fear and distress and clearly reduces
the medical benefits. Nitto Denko's drug-delivery technology,
however, introduces a "painless anesthesia" that
delivers a local anesthetic into the skin at a high concentration.
Steroid patch for treatment of local dermatitis
This adhesive patch formulation contains a corticosteroid
in the adhesive matrix that is administered to the area requiring
treatment. The use of an impermeable backing enhances the
drug's penetration of the skin.
*We offer other pharmaceutical products as well, such as an
anti-inflammatory analgesic cataplasm.
Properties/Technologies required for transdermal drug delivery
patches

We all hope to avoid disease. But should we become ill, early
detection ensures the best treatment. Diagnostics contribute
to a healthy life; they help doctors detect unapparent diseases
at an early stage and are considered as important as drugs.By
applying its synthetic polymer technology, Nitto Denko has
developed a highly specific immunological latex diagnostic
system.
Occult-blood: detecting reagent kit
Colon
cancer, considered intractable, can be cured in almost all
patients if appropriate treatment is received at an early
stage. A regular medical examination is the most effective
form of prevention. Hemoscreen, an occult-blood-detecting
reagent kit, is used as an early screening method for colon
cancer. The latex reagent reacts specifically with human blood,
so no dietary restrictions are required before the test. |
